Vol. 255 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Mental Hospital Patients.

5.

asked the Minister for Health whether the case of a person (name supplied) who is at present in the Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum, Dublin, has been reconsidered with a view to his transfer to a mental treatment institution other than the Central Mental Hospital; and, if so, what decision has been taken on the matter.

The condition of the patient, name supplied, who is still detained in the Central Mental Hospital, is the subject of continual medical review and his continued detention is in accordance with the medical advice that that hospital is the most suitable place for his care and treatment.

6.

asked the Minister for Health the total number of cases in the Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum, Dublin, reconsidered for transfer to active mental treatment units in the various health authority areas since the Chief Psychiatrist to the Dublin Health Authority recommended the adoption of such a procedure.

A special review of all patients in the Central Mental Hospital was undertaken in the early part of this year with a view to determining their suitability for transfer to district mental hospitals. To date, six patients have been transferred as a result of this review and 11 other cases are still under active consideration.
