Vol. 255 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Semi-State Body Reports.

41.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if any of the semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department is obliged by statute to furnish an annual report; if so, if any such body has failed to furnish a a report within the time limit laid down for it by statute; the reasons for the delay; and what action he proposes to take to ensure the early production of such reports.

The answer to the first part of the question is "Yes". Due to the bank strike last year, one body was a few weeks late in furnishing its report for 1970. No other body under the aegis of my Department failed to furnish its report within the time limit.

Comhairle Groighe Náisiúnta na hÉireann, though not under the aegis of my Department, is also required to furnish its report to me. As indicated in my reply to the Deputy's question on 22nd July, there have been delays by this body in furnishing its reports. My Department has communicated with An Comhairle requiring the early submission of the outstanding report.

Can the Minister give any assurance that in future the report of the National Stud will be issued as required?

We have urged the Comhairle to expedite the production of its report as much as possible.
