Vol. 255 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Egg Production.

48.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will account for the decline in the past three years in egg production; and if he will indicate Government policy in relation to this matter.

The slight decline in egg production over the past three years is attributable mainly to a reduction in the demand for eggs on the home market on which the industry is almost entirely dependent.

Every effort is being made to increase the efficiency of the industry by encouraging, with grant aid, the growth of more economic production units with modern housing and equipment and by ensuring the availability of the best strains of laying stock.
