Vol. 256 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Decentralisation of Government Departments.

98.

asked the Minister for Finance what progress, if any, has been made towards the removal of the Department of Education to Athlone.

99.

asked the Minister for Finance what progress, if any, has been made towards the removal of the Land Commission to Castlebar.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take questions 98 and 99 together.

Sites for the necessary office buildings have been acquired and considerable progress has been made in planning. The stage has not yet been reached, however, when the erection of the office buildings, involving considerable capital expenditure, can be put in hands.

The Minister answered with a straight face.

Would the Minister not consider it remarkable that there has been no reference by the Minister in the Department of Lands Estimate to this matter which is of great importance to many people?

They must be keeping it for the next general election.

I did not hear the debate on that Estimate.

It is part of regional policy.
