127.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of each forest in Counties Donegal, Cork and Tipperary, (a) the number of forestry workers on lay-off at present; (b) the number of lay-off notices (R.P.8) issued since 1st April, 1971; (c) the number of redundancy certificates issued; (d) if lay-offs are arranged according to seniority of service; and (e) the number of lump sums paid under the State employees pension scheme.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

*Four of these men have since been re-employed and the others will be re-employed shortly

Seniority of service is one of the main factors taken into consideration in laying off men but regard is also had to such considerations as the man's family and financial circumstances, his attendance and work output.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of each forest, grouped in counties (a) the number of forestry workers on lay-off at present (b) the number of redundancy certificates issued since 1st January, 1971; (c) and the total for the State.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of forestry workers formally employed by the Department of Lands, the number of pensions being paid under the State Employees Pension Scheme which is effective from 1st January, 1970.

Retirement lump sums have been paid to about 100 forest workers who retired since 1st January, 1970 and examination of the entitlement of those involved to pension under the scheme recently agreed is at present in progress.
