Vol. 256 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Housing Standards.

204.

asked the Minister for Local Government what standards are adopted by local authorities in deciding whether houses are safe or unsafe.

I have no functions in this matter. The law places the onus on the sanitary authority to decide whether or not a building is dangerous. It is a matter for the authority to determine the standards to be applied. I have no doubt that in a matter of such importance the sanitary authority would be guided by the advice of their technical experts, following detailed inspection of the building concerned.
