Vol. 257 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Truce Anniversary Medals.

126.

asked the Minister for Defence when he hopes to distribute the medals commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the Truce.

I anticipate that distribution of the Truce (1921) Commemoration Medal will commence in January next.

Has the Minister available in his brief the total number of medals it is intended to distribute?

Thirty thousand approximately.

Are the Black and Tans in that?

Who is entitled to get those medals?

Fianna Fáil men.

As a first step it is proposed to issue medals to those in the following categories: (a) who have pensions under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934; (b) who have pensions under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924 and (c) who are being paid a special allowance under the Army Pensions Acts, but anybody who has a duly awarded medal will receive one of the anniversary medals.

And a miraculous medal as well.
