Vol. 257 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Yarn Contract.

152.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that a firm (name supplied) have tendered at 77 pence a lb. for a Government contract for yarn as against a quotation of 68½ pence by an English spinner; that this percentage difference justifies the award of the contract to the Irish firm under the rules of the Government Contracts Committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department is at present considering tenders for the supply of yarn for Army socks. It would be contrary to established practice to disclose particulars of the tenders received but the question of giving preference to the firm whose name was supplied by the Deputy does not arise as tenders were submitted by Irish firms only.
