Vol. 257 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Company Director.

16.

andDr. O'Connell asked the Minister for Finance if he regards it as acceptable that a director (name supplied) of a State company (name supplied), who has ceased to reside in this country, should remain as a member of the board of the company having regard to the problems of the company which must require continual board attention.

While it is essential that as a general rule directors of State companies should be resident in this country, I do not consider that non-residence should in all cases preclude a person being a director of these companies.

I do not think it desirable to comment at this stage on the present case since the constitution of the board of directors is under consideration in the light of reorganisation proposals made by the company.
