Vol. 258 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cavan Hospital.

23.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the report of a committee of the North-Eastern Regional Health Board who inspected the surgical hospital, Cavan; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the conditions disclosed by this report and if he will say what steps it is proposed to take to remedy the position.

I understand that the committee referred to by the Deputy is the County Hospitals Visiting Committee of the North-Eastern Health Board. The report of this committee is a matter for the health board concerned, which no doubt will take whatever action is considered necessary or desirable arising out of such report. As a first step, following the receipt of the visiting committee's report. the North-Eastern Health Board has requested a report on the hospital from the fire officer.

(Cavan): Does it follow from what the Minister has told me that he has not seen this report?

Not this latest report. The report is being examined by the health board.

(Cavan): The Minister has not seen it?

I have not seen the most recent report.

(Cavan): Would the Minister accept a recommendation from me to get this report and look at it because if it is as reported in the Press it makes very alarming reading?

I have no doubt I will be seeing the report in due course.
