Vol. 258 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meeting with President Nixon.

29.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs why he did not seek a meeting with President Nixon in view of the gravity of the situation in Northern Ireland and the necessity for it to be discussed at the highest levels with friendly Governments.

I have had a meeting with the Secretary of State who is the equivalent of a Foreign Minister in the US administration. I am satisfied that the Government's views on the current situation have been conveyed to President Nixon.

Have President Nixon's views been conveyed to us by Mr. Rogers?

The Minister for Foreign Affairs will be home very shortly and we can have a fuller communication and discussion on the matter.
