Vol. 258 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Air Services Extensions.

41.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether there is any possibility of Aer Lingus introducing direct services between Birmingham and Shannon or between Birmingham and Shannon via Manchester; and, if not, why.

42.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether Aer Lingus have any plans to introduce new direct scheduled services to Shannon Airport from Britain and Europe in 1972; and, if not, why.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 41 and 42 together.

Aer Lingus have under constant review the question of the expansion of their services. I am informed by the company that apart from a new inclusive tour charter service Shannon/Paris for the 1972 summer season they do not propose to introduce any new services from Shannon to any part of Britain or Europe at present because their investigations have shown that it would be uneconomic.
