Vol. 258 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Detention of FCA Members.

17.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he is aware of the reported detention (details supplied) of two members of the FCA by British Security Forces near Newry on Sunday, February 6th; if he will indicate whether they were in uniform; and if he has made representations to the British Government in connection with this incident.

I am aware of the detention for questioning near Newry of two members of the FCA just before midnight on Saturday last. I understand that these men were not in uniform but wore parka type jackets and military type haversacks which were their private property. It seems that because of their mode of dress they were held for questioning as to their identity and intentions before being released on Sunday evening. The incident did not warrant representations to the British authorities.
