Vol. 259 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Fruit Growing.

21.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries why the report commissioned in 1965 on Irish fruit growing and its future was not published; if he will indicate the recommendations in the report which were implemented and those which were not implemented, giving reasons in the case of the latter.

This report, which dealt solely with apple production, was commissioned in consultation with representatives of the apple growing industry and was circulated to the interests concerned and others directly involved in the survey. In view of the commercial character of the report it was not considered appropriate to publish its contents more widely. The findings therein have been available for the guidance of the industry as circumstances have required.

How many copies of the report were distributed?

I have not got that figure.

Would the Minister not agree that that figure is crucial to its alleged dissemination among producers?

If the Deputy feels that the precise number of copies circulated is so crucial he should put down a question to determine that figure.

The Minister should know it.
