Vol. 259 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Housing.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) why 20 houses being built by Macroom UDC were re-advertised when the builder who submitted the lowest tender was willing to construct them; (b) who ordered that they be re-advertised; and (c) what guarantee there is that they will now be built for a lower sum.

The Urban District Council's proposal to accept a tender for 20 dwellings at Macroom was received in my Department last July. The tender price was very much in excess of the original estimate of cost and the council were asked to explain this excess. Subsequently the members of the council, in consultation with the manager, decided to re-advertise the scheme for tenders. Their further proposals have not yet been received. I have no comment to make on the possible outcome of the council's decision.

46.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position in regard to the proposed housing scheme at Ballincollig, County Cork.

I am awaiting the housing authority's revised proposals for this scheme.
