Vol. 259 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commercial Vehicle Taxes.

118.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the EEC Council of Ministers adopted on 3rd December, 1971, proposals for the adjustment of commercial vehicle taxes, and, if so, how these proposals will affect Irish taxes; and if he has made any representations in the matter.

Specific proposals of the nature referred to in the Deputy's question were not adopted on the 3rd December, 1971, by the Council of the European Economic Community.

Were proposals adopted in principle at that meeting?

Was the matter discussed?

It could have been but no decisions were taken.

Is the Minister aware of the subject matter of the discussion and, if so, is he taking steps to present his comments?

Matters were submitted for discussion and if Ireland becomes a member we can participate in such negotiations.

Would the Minister not agree it would be better to make the position clear beforehand.

That is one point of view.

Question No. 119 postponed.
