Vol. 259 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Frascati House Preservation.

134.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the historic importance and need for preservation of Frascati House, Blackrock, County Dublin, the former home of Lord Edward Fitzgerald, he will make representations to Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation requesting that the demolition order granted by the Corporation be rescinded and that provision be made for local amenity use of this building.

135.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of a demolition order on Frascati House, Blackrock, County Dublin, and if he will consider requesting Dún Laoghaire Corporation to rescind the order in view of the historical significance of the building.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 134 and 135 together.

I am aware that Dún Laoghaire Corporation granted permission under the Housing Act, 1969 to Frascati Estates Limited to demolish Frascati House. The 1969 Act does not empower the corporation or me to revoke or rescind such a permission.

It is a condition of the permission that demolition shall not commence until such time as permission under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963 has been granted for the redevelopment of the site.
