Vol. 259 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Security Measures.

49.

andMr. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice if he is satisfied that the security precautions are sufficient to protect the various institutions of State.

The security arrangements for the protection of various State buildings are determined in accordance with the professional judgement of officers of the Garda Síochána, in consultation, where necessary, with the military authorities, and taking into account both the resources they have and the other demands on them. In a matter of this kind, nobody can give any guarantees but the present arrangements are considered by the Garda to be reasonable and the matter is one that is kept under constant review.

The question is, is the Minister satisfied?

Fully satisfied.

50.

asked the Minister for Justice the average weekly cost of guarding the Fianna Fáil premises at Upper Mount Street, Dublin.

As I have previously indicated on a number of occasions, the latest being as recent as last week, it is not the practice, and I do not consider that it would be in the public interest, to give any details about security matters.

(Cavan): Is it in the public interest to keep that building at all?

It is a very good building. It is the contents that are questionable.
