Vol. 259 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Budget Companies.

31.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the public concern and anxiety regarding the delay in introducing legislation to cover the operations of the home budget companies.

I had hoped to introduce in the present session a Bill for the regulation of home budgeting agencies. A scheme of a Bill was prepared for this purpose some time ago but consultation with certain interested parties has shown that some revision of the original scheme of the Bill will be necessary. This revision is well in hands and I expect to have a revised Bill introduced in the Dáil in the next session.

Would the Minister state who the interested parties are?

There are several interested parties but, in relation to the present law, specifically it is the Credit Union advisory committee.

And who else?

They are the particular people involved in this revision, which I find necessary, of the original scheme.

How soon will the Minister be able to introduce this legislation?

I said in my reply——

Say it again now.

The Deputy does not listen to replies.

Would the Minister be able to state a date?

I have stated that this revision is well in hands and I expect to have a revised Bill introduced in the Dáil in the next session.
