The specification for the new fishery protection vessel provided for the supply by the contractors of two work boats with glass fibre hulls as part of the equipment of the vessel. Boats of a proven naval type were required. I am advised that the contractors were not aware of any Irish manufacturers in this field and found it necessary to purchase the boats from abroad.
