Vol. 260 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Dublin City Maternity Hospital.

29.

asked the Minister for Health whether his Department has investigated the possibility and advantages of using the site available at the Old Cabra Road, Dublin, originally intended for the erection of a new Saint Lawrence Hospital, for the purposes of building a new maternity hospital for north Dublin city which is extremely short of maternity beds; and whether his Department has given consideration to the utilisation of the plans used for the building of the new Coombe hospital for this purpose.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to him on 16th February, 1972, concerning the arrangements to meet the needs for maternity bed accommodation for this area in the short and long term.

It is not intended to build a specialist maternity hospital in isolation as suggested by the Deputy. Apart from development at the existing maternity hospitals any further development would be associated with a general hospital complex.
