Vol. 260 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Hospital.

1.

Mr. J. Lenehan

asked the Minister for Health the present position regarding proposals for the use of the second hospital at Belmullet, County Mayo as a geriatric centre.

It will be necessary to provide alternative accommodation for services which are at present located in the former fever hospital before it will be possible to use the hospital building for the accommodation of old people. I understand that there is now a prospect that this can be arranged, and, as a result of a recent discussion between officers of my Department and the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board, arrangements have been made for the preparation by the board's architect of a suitable scheme for the adaption of the building as a home for old people. The question of proceeding with the scheme will be considered when all relevant factors, including cost, have been clarified.
