Vol. 260 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Vocational Education Administration.

39.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the limited strike action taken by the Vocational Teachers' Association in County Wexford against the manner in which vocational education is administered there; and of the demand for a public inquiry into the administration of vocational education in that county; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I received today a request to hold a sworn inquiry into the administration of vocational education in County Wexford. I am considering that request.

Is the Minister aware that there is considerable disquiet among the vocational teachers of Wexford about general administration, and would he hold the inquiry as soon as possible? I am satisfied that the Vocational Teachers' Association are a responsible body and would not have taken this limited strike action without grave cause.

As I pointed out to the Deputy, I have only received the request today and I am considering what I should do in the matter.
