A customs clearance fee is charged for the service performed by the post office in presenting for customs examination a dutiable postal packet from abroad. The fees, which are prescribed by statutory regulation, are 5p in respect of a letter packet, 8p in respect of a parcel on which the duty levied does not exceed 50p and 14p where the duty exceeds 50p.
