If the husband and wife are resident together and if the combined valuation of the husband's and wife's holdings is £60 or less, one contribution of £7 is payable each year under the Health Contributions Act, 1971, except where they are holders of a medical card. No contribution is payable where the family are the holders of a medical card or where the combined valuation in such circumstances exceeds £60.
Should the husband and wife be not resident together, liability to pay contributions is assessed for each separately and each, if liable, would have to pay a separate contribution.
If the husband and wife are both working in full-time employment is the one contribution sufficient?
In that case they would, I think, be paying social welfare contributions.
