Vol. 261 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Pollution.

138.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received any report of the considerable pollution of the Graney river and of Lough Derg by industrial undertakings; and what action the responsible authority proposes to take on the matter.

I have not received any such report. The only relevant information I have on the matter is contained in the National Survey of Irish Rivers, published by An Foras Forbartha last April, which shows that the Graney river is clean apart from some minor deterioration before it enters Lough Derg. The initiation of remedial action to secure abatement of any water pollution which may be occurring is a matter for the enforcement authorities.
