Vol. 261 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rented Government Offices.

19.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount paid in respect of the renting of offices for use by Government Departments in Dublin for the year ended 31st March, 1971.

The total amount of rents paid for Government offices in Dublin for the year in question was approximately £457,000.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary have details of the floor space?

That is a separate question.

I have not got them here.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary let me know?

I will let the Deputy know if he puts down a separate question.

20.

asked the Minister for Finance if any additional offices have been rented by Government Departments in Dublin since 31st March, 1972.

Since 31st March, 1972, two office buildings have been leased in Dublin, one containing about 45,000 square feet in Townsend Street by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs for some of their own staff and the other containing about 40,000 square feet at No. 52 St. Stephen's Green by the Commissioners of Public Works. It is proposed to use the latter building for staffs of the Departments of Finance and Foreign Affairs and the Office of Public Works.

Were these offices rented since 31st March last?

Is there any change in policy from the point of view of buying sites instead of renting offices?

That is a separate question.

The matter is under review and there could be a change of policy.
