Vol. 261 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Land Acquisition.

35.

asked the Minister for Lands if the difficulties affecting the title of the lands held by the Mercy Nuns, Roscommon, have now been resolved; and, if so, when the Land Commission will allocate these lands.

Possession of some 100 acres of this property passed to the Land Commission last month. Certain difficulties affecting title to the balance of the estate, 14 acres, must be resolved by the vendors before possession can be taken by the Land Commission.

Just now I am unable to indicate when the lands may be allotted.

36.

asked the Minister for Lands if a decision has been taken on the acquisition of the lands attached to a college (name supplied) in County Roscommon.

Agreement has been reached for purchase by the Land Commission of this property and possession will be taken as soon as the necessary legal requirements have been completed.

Could the Minister say if the Land Commission have made any progress since I asked a question on 4th February, 1971? It seems they have made very little progress, since the reply is practically the same.

There was a further question from the Deputy on 17th June, 1971, and at that stage the reply was to the effect that negotiations were going on but would have to be treated as confidential. Since then at least agreement for purchase has been reached and there has been agreement on price so that it is now merely a matter of awaiting the lodgment of the necessary legal documents.

In view of the fact that there are 14 or 15 smallholders adjoining this estate, will the Minister ensure that it will be divided in the shortest possible time once it is acquired?

I shall bring the Deputy's representations to the notice of the Commissioners, in any event, and I am aware of the situation myself.
