asked the Minister for Justice if Arbour Hill was considered for use under the Prisons Act, 1972; and, if not, why.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Arbour Hill Usage.
115.
I assume that the Deputy is referring to the use of Arbour Hill for the custody of prisoners transferred to military custody. The place of custody of such prisoners is a matter for the Minister for Defence.
May I ask the Minister to answer the question as to whether Arbour Hill was considered for use?
I and my Department consulted the Army authorities and we had to be said by them in regard to what premises should be used. While this is solely a matter for the Minister for Defence, The Minister and the Army pointed out to me that Arbour Hill is in bad condition and would not be suitable for use at the moment.
