Vol. 261 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly School.

27.

asked the Minister for Education the proposals in regard to Leamonaghan national school, Ballycumber, County Offaly; if he has any plans to keep this school open and to enlarge it; if he is aware that a number of people in the area are anxious about the future of this school; and if he will make a statement on the matter including background information.

Leamonaghan national school is a two-teacher school. An assessment of the Leamonaghan area has made it clear that the future enrolments would be sufficient to maintain a one-teacher school only.

In accordance with the policy to regroup small schools into larger and more efficient teaching units, the question of its amalgamation with another school in the area has been under investigation. A final decision as to the school with which it will be amalgamated has not yet been taken.
