Vol. 261 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Northern Ireland Visitors.

14.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether any consideration has been given in present circumstances to attracting visitors from Northern Ireland during the present tourist season.

Efforts have been made by Bord Fáilte to attract visitors from Northern Ireland during the present tourist season by means of a limited advertising campaign, designed to introduce Discover Ireland holiday offers to potential Northern visitors, and by promoting group travel, particularly by youth groups.

In which areas is the limited advertising being done?

General advertising as done heretofore would obviously be a very negative operation in the present climate. There was and are specific promotion efforts aimed at groups who would be inclined to come here.

Would the Minister have a word with his colleague, whose responsibility it would be, to have slogans removed from public buildings, walls and roads?

This is being done.

There is one out at Glasnevin and it has been there for the last eight years.
