Up to 31st March, 1971, the latest date for which figures are available, State investment in Shannon Airport amounted to £9.533 million and, in addition, State capital amounting to £16.871 million had been made available to the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited for investment in the Shannon Industrial Estate.
At the same date, State investment in Dublin Airport totalled £10,762 million.

At 31st March, 1972, there were 4,332 male and 2,137 female employees at Shannon Airport of whom 2,832 male and 1,527 female related to the industrial estate. At Dublin Airport there were 4,317 male and 1,552 female employees at the same date. These figures do not include workers employed by engineering and building contractors.
