Vol. 262 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leaving Certificate Examination Complaints.

33.

asked the Minister for Education whether more complaints than usual were received on any particular subject for the honours leaving certificate, 1972; and whether any consultation with teacher organisations is envisaged to ensure that changing curricula in various subjects do not cause unnecessary hardship to students.

The answer to the first part of the question is no.

I take the word "curricula" in the second part of the question to mean "syllabuses".

Changes in subject syllabuses are made only after consultation with specially constituted syllabus committees on which teacher organisations, as well as other educational interests, are represented.

Were there more than usual complaints this year on matters like the accountancy paper and the maths paper? I can recall seeing correspondence in the papers about this.

There were some complaints but the question the Deputy asked me was whether there were more complaints than usual and the fact is that there were not.

They were the same as last year?
