Vol. 262 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Primary Schools Waiting Lists.

35.

asked the Minister for Education the present number of children on waiting lists for Dublin primary schools.

The information requested is not available to my Department.

Is there no way of finding out this information?

There is a certain amount of difficulty. The position is that the compilation of a waiting list is a matter for the school manager. He does not normally furnish the Department with details of the number of children on the list. Whenever there is a case made for the provision of extra staff or extra accommodation this information is either furnished by the manager or requested by the Department.

Would the information not be necessary for statistical reasons by the Department?

I do not think so.
