Vol. 262 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin TB Clinic.

8.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that the tuberculosis clinic at Castle Street, Dublin, is being closed; if his Department's sanction has been obtained for this closure; and if he is satisfied that the alternative arrangements are adequate to meet the needs of affected patients.

I am informed by the Eastern Health Board that the arrangements for services at the TB clinics in the Dublin area, including the clinic at Castle Street, are at present under review but that no decision has yet been taken in the matter by the board.

May I ask the Minister if sanction from his Department must be obtained for the closure of this?

There is some legalistic doubt about that, but I think the Deputy can take it that it would require my consent.

Did the Eastern Health Board communicate with the Minister's Department regarding a possible closure of it.

They have not yet made their decision.

The Minister said it was under review, but is the Minister aware that the chief executive officer of the Eastern Health Board knew nothing about it?

I said the officers concerned are reviewing it.
