Vol. 262 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farrier Grants.

52.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will introduce a scheme of grants for the reconstruction and modernisation of farriers' premises.

I am not satisfied as to the necessity for such a scheme.

The Parliamentary Secretary is not satisfied. On what grounds is he not satisfied?

It is my opinion that farriers are in a position to maintain their own premises without grants from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Grants were paid by the IDA to farriers to enable them to take on the maintenance and repair of farm machinery.

The Parliamentary Secretary is talking through his hat. He does not know the difference between a farrier and an ordinary smith.

I certainly do know the difference.

The Parliamentary Secretary is talking to the wrong man now. The people who got these grants were in a different field of activity entirely. I know what I am talking about and no one in this House can tell me anything about it.
