Vol. 262 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Industry Employment.

32.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he or officials of his Department will have regular consultations with representatives of the Construction Industry Federation with a view to alleviating their fears about any possible future unemployment that might arise in that industry.

In accordance with standing arrangements, there are regular consultations, at which my Department is represented, about the output of and prospects for the building industry, between the Construction Industry Federation, other building interests, and the Department of Local Government, which is responsible in relation to matters affecting the industry. I consider that these arrangements are adequate for the purpose which the Deputy has in mind.

Is he satisfied that the construction industry need feel no alarm and that their fears are without foundation in relation to the future of their industry? Has the Department allayed their fears in this regard recently?

That is a complete non sequitur in relation to the Deputy's question.

Has the Department had dealings with them?

I have already said "yes" to that and I told the Deputy that in response to previous questions, too.
