Vol. 262 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as follows: Nos. 17, 18, 19, 20; Nos. 4 and 21 and in 21, Vote 40 the Supplementary Estimate.

On the Order of Business, can the Taoiseach say when it is proposed to resume after the summer recess?

That has not been decided finally but I hope to indicate the date at the beginning of the Adjournment Debate on Thursday.

Would the Taoiseach assure the House that should the situation in the North warrant the House being recalled during the recess, he will recall it?

I would not give any specific undertaking on that but I can assure the Deputy that it is my intention to keep in close touch with the Leaders of the main Opposition Parties in that respect and to take full account of their views.

Would the Taoiseach not consider postponing the adjournment of the House in view of the situation in Northern Ireland and because of the disquiet among the public that the Dáil should be adjourned at this critical time?

Would the Taoiseach say whether it might be possible for him to keep in closer touch with us in future than he has done in the past?

As the Deputy is aware, that has not always been my fault but in the weeks following the adjournment of the House I will undertake to keep in close touch with both Leaders.

Can we take it that the Taoiseach would consider a joint request from us to reassemble the House if we considered that step necessary?

Certainly I would. With that end in view I would keep in touch.

We sincerely hope that such action will not be necessary in respect of the particular issue that is in the minds of all of us.

I am glad the Deputy said that, unlike what was said by his colleague a few minutes ago.

Is it still the intention to introduce the Lourdes Marriages Bill in this session?

Yes. It will be introduced tomorrow probably.
