Vol. 262 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swimming Pool Cost.

143.

asked the Minister for Local Government the estimated cost of a full standard-size swimming pool approved by his Department; the average amount of grant payable by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am advised that in open competition the current cost of a pool conforming in general to my Department's guideline specification would be of the order of £60,000.

The financial assistance given by my Department towards the cost of an approved swimming pool project takes the form of an annual subsidy, normally 50 per cent, towards the loan charges payable by a local authority on foot of loans raised toward financing the provision of their own pools or the making of contributions to the funds of a society, club, committee or other body providing swimming facilities.

When does the Minister intend to approve the erection of a swimming pool at Rathmines?

That is a separate question.

When the Deputy has collected the 20 per cent voluntary contribution.
