Vol. 262 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sunday Payment Claim.

45.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will explain the long delay in attending to the claim for Sunday payment made by the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union on behalf of their members employed as park constables in Kilkenny Castle Park.

In December last a claim was received from the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union on behalf of two constables, employed in Kilkenny Castle Park, for extra payment for Sunday work. The union were advised by letter, dated 21st February, 1972, that the claim could not be conceded because Sunday working forms part of the men's normal working week, that this was made clear when interviews for the posts were being conducted and that this position was accepted by the applicants for the posts.
