Vol. 262 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Industry.

90.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the recent and successful start made by a small industry in Milford, County Donegal; and whether, in view of the fact that it is operating in a disused school which is totally unsuitable, he will have an advance factory provided in or adjacent to Milford.

I understand from the Industrial Development Authority that the premises are regarded by the promoters as adequate for their present scale of operation. Further expansion of the enterprise, however, may entail alternative premises and if this stage is reached consideration will be given to any application for assistance which the promoters may make.

The promoters do not regard the premises as adequate and as of now and for some weeks past they have been making every endeavour to see if there is any way of adding to the existing premises and providing services in them which are not available at the moment and which are not capable of being provided in the premises in the location in which they are situated. Would the Minister take it as absolutely certain that their present premises are inadequate, that they do want to expand and that the existing site is unsuitable? We have all this traipsing around with advance factories and no industries; here we have an industry and no factory. Would it not be reasonable to put an industry where there is a factory and do something more than talk?

I would agree if the promoters made any approach to the IDA.

They have already.

My information is not in accordance with that.
