Vol. 264 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fatal Accidents in Agriculture.

164.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if the administration of the Occupational Injuries Acts under his Department reveals the number of fatal injuries at work known to have occurred in agriculture in each of the past three years; and, if so, the number or estimated number ascertained by sampling or otherwise.

The number of fatal injuries at work in agriculture in respect of which benefit under the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) Act, 1966, was granted in each of the financial years 1969-70, 1970-71 and 1971-72 was three, two and three, respectively. The administration of the Act does not reveal the number of fatal injuries at work which may have occurred in agriculture to persons who were not employed in insurable (occupational injuries) employment or in respect of whom claims under the Act were not made.
