Vol. 265 No. 1

Business of Dáil.

A Cheann Comhairle, when you put the Motion moved by the Taoiseach for the nomination of Members of the Government, you referred to the Motion as having been circulated but so far as I know nobody has seen copies of this.

There are some copies available.

We can get it afterwards.

You can read it in the morning papers.

It will have to be the Cork Examiner.

I move: That the House do adjourn until the 28th March.

May I ask the Taoiseach whether the imminence of the White Paper might alter that and might be a reason for meeting before the 28th March?

It does not alter the reason for meeting. It is possible that the White Paper will be issued before then but on my motion the Dáil stands adjourned until the 28th March.

What causes me anxiety is that we seem to have had the happy knack during the past couple of years of having the House adjourned on important occasions. I am wondering whether we are going into the same dilemma again.

We have no say in the time of the issuing of the White Paper. That is a matter for the British Government.

From the assumptions on the part of all the media it seems that the White Paper can be expected next week. I may be wrong on that but its contents may be such that it would be advisable for this House to meet to discuss them.

There will be ample opportunity for that.

Question put and agreed to.

Seanad Éireann nhas accepted the Appropriation Bill, 1972 without recommendation and has passed the County Management (Amendment) Bill, 1972 without ammendment.

For the purposes of the record I should state that communications have been received from the Department of the Taoiseach in relation to (a) the appointment of Deputy O'Kennedy as a member of the Government (b) the appointment of the Deputy Tunney as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education (c) the resignation of Deputy Hillery as a member of the Government (d) the assignment of the Department of Foreign Affairs to Deputy Lenihan, a member of the Government (e) the termination of the assignment of the Department of Transport and Power to Deputy Lenihan and the reassignment of that Department to Deputy O'Kennedy, a member of the Government (f) the reappointment following the general election of Deputies Andrews, Geoghegan, Lemass, Kitt, Cunningham, Fahey and Tunney as Parliamentary Secretaries.

The Dáil adjourned at 7.40 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 28th March, 1973.
