Vol. 265 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CARE Memorandum.

54.

asked the Minister for Health if a memorandum from CARE has been received; the action, if any, he proposes to take arising out of their recommendations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A memorandum from CARE was received in June last. It has been under examination in my Department and in the other Departments concerned. It is not possible for me, at this stage, to say what action will be taken on the memorandum but it will be dealt with as soon as possible.

Has the Minister studied the memorandum?

Can the Minister state when he will be in a position to study the memorandum?

I have told the Deputy the memorandum is being considered by the Department of Health and by the other Departments concerned.

Therefore, I am not in a position to make any judgments until I get the reports or recommendations from all the Departments concerned, including my own Department.

Is the Minister aware that the organisation concerned circularised this memorandum to every Deputy? I am surprised to hear the Minister say he has not studied the document.

Not as a Minister.

Has the Deputy read the memorandum?

I have read it. That was one of my reasons for putting down the question. This is a very important question——

It is an important matter.

——and it should not be treated as flippantly as was the question on the New Ross fever hospital.

The memorandum was received in June last. Was the Deputy concerned about this matter between the months of June and March?

I am calling Question No. 55.
