the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that recipients of unemployment assistance are subject to a means test which in many cases deprives such persons of a proper allowance because of the income of the household; and if he will state what action the Government proposes to take to rectify this injustice.

As the Deputy is aware, one of the priorities of the Government as indicated in the 14 points statement of intent is a complete review of the social welfare system and the matter referred to by the Deputy will certainly be included in that review.
