Vol. 265 No. 6

Written Answers. - Land Allocation.

179.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will list, county by county, the estates held by the Land Commission for allocation and the estates likely to be allocated during 1973.

The position regarding lands in the possession of the Land Commission for distribution is subject to constant fluctuation depending upon progress in intake and allotment. At any one time the Land Commission may have in or around 60,000 acres of arable lands in their possession comprised in as many as 2,400 properties. To compile a list giving only the names of these properties would be a formidable task. A list giving fuller details such as record numbers, townlands, areas, approximate location, et cetera—which would be necessary if the list were to be of much value—would involve a quite disproportionate diversion of staff and would not be warranted.

As regards allotment it is not feasible to indicate when individual estates on the hands of the Land Commission will be allocated but it may be taken that in all cases the necessary inquiries on the ground preliminary to allotment are being pushed forward as rapidly as circumstances permit.

If the Deputy is interested in any particular estates perhaps he would put down a further question or communicate with me and I will furnish him with all available information.
