Vol. 265 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Emergency.

84.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to declare a housing emergency.

I would refer the Deputy to Questions Nos. 8 and 9 of 3rd May. I have nothing further to add to that reply.

In view of the fact that the building societies in the United Kingdom will pay up to 10 per cent tax free, will this not bring about a situation in this country whereby the building societies will not be able to continue to make loans available?

That is a separate question.

It will affect house production.

That has nothing whatever to do with the question and it is a mischievous interpretation of what is happening here.

Anything but.

It is a fishy question.

If I may quote a former leader of the Fine Gael Party, the hot money is gone and the Minister knows it.

Quotations are out of order at Question Time.

Deputy Lemass's last statement is not correct.

It is correct.
