The initiative in undertaking overseas market research rests primarily with individual firms. However, Córas Tráchtála, which has statutory responsibility for the promotion and development of exports, provides grants and other assistance to exporters for market research. Extensive research facilities are available at Córas Tráchtála's headquarters in Dublin and their overseas offices are strategically located to cover the EEC countries and other areas of major trading interest to Ireland so as to provide on-thespot market intelligence. In preparation of EEC membership Córas Tráchtála opened a new office in Brussels in 1972 and arrangements have now been completed for the opening of an office in Milan. It is planned to open an office in Copenhagen within the next 12 months.
