Two orders already made have brought most sections of the Act into operation, on dates between 1st February and 1st May, 1973. Only three sections remain to be brought into operation, sections 1, 7 and 18. It is hoped to bring section 1, relating to marriages of persons under 16 years of age, into operation soon. The commencement of sections 7 and 18, relating to the age above which parental consent is not required, is being discussed with the several interests involved. I cannot at present state when they will be brought into effect.
