Vol. 265 No. 14

Ceistéanna—Questions Oral Answers - Old People's Entitlement.

10.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider notification to people who are nearing 70 years of age and are drawing either unemployment or disability benefit of their entitlement and what they should do to obtain benefit without long delay.

Persons in receipt of either unemployment or disability benefit who are nearing 70 years of age are notified in writing by my Department some three months in advance of their 70th birthday of their likely entitlement to pension and of the steps they should take to apply for it. As announced in the budget the qualifying age for old age pensions is being reduced to 69 years and arrangements are being made so that in future notifications will be sent to those concerned in advance of their 69th birthday.
